Project 7 - Smudge and Click
I was not present for the tutorial where we were learning about Smudge and Click, though I had a general idea as to what it entailed. We were tasked with creating our own Smudge and Click animation based around the theme of horror or haunting, as it was Halloween at the time.
I decided to work with black paper and white pastel to create my animation as I felt the contrast worked well with the theme and handed me a character on a silver platter, as it's a lot more 'realistic' for a ghost to be drawn in white.
During the animation process I referred to the 12 Principles of Animation, using squash and stretch to show the ghost moving and dissolving. In the video, this is not so visible due to the inexplicable loss of frames. It is primarily present during the beginning before the ghost disappears and also when the ghost reappears.
I personally think it's quite cute! I am not so sure that this would be my go-to method of animation though. My art style is typically quite tight and controlled, and with charcoal or chalk or other easily smudged mediums I feel that isn't quite possible - especially considering I'm left handed and smudge everything under the sun.
