Animation Practice 2 - 2

We learned how to create masks and what they could be used for. By masking something, you are essentially creating a layer in between two parts of an image, allowing something to pass between the two.

Here we see that the large pug puppy is masked. The pug itself is on the top, while the white background is on the bottom. Cutting out another pug and making it transparent, I placed it in a layer in the middle of the two and used keyframes on the Transform Position option to make the Christmas Tree Pug move out from behind the larger pug and back again. Masks are fun.

We also learned how to use text and similar things in a 3D space using Adobe After Effects. We also played around with the camera. WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS HIDEOUS.

Despite the clearly intentional low quality of the video above, we can see that the text moves towards us and beyond. However, this is not actually the case. Everything in the video was created within a 3D space and was static for the entire video (with the exception of the clearly overly-excited 'pugtastic' and the fade effects). What was moving was actually the camera, which moved forwards and past the words.

Clearly you can get quite creative with these basic techniques. It could be cool to create moving landscapes and such.

Animation Practice 2 - 1

Our first Animation Practice class of the second semester involved our first contact with the module brief and getting in touch with Adobe After Effects.

Our module brief is to enter the My Street competition and create a short film about where we live that focuses on animation as a medium. This is going to be difficult given that a live in a backwater village in a backwater town in Cheshire, which is also pretty aptly described as backwater. I am sure I will come up with something.

In After Effects we only did some basic editing. We took a few photos from google, imported them into After Effects and also did the same with sound. I created a montage of pugs to the harmonious sounds of a yapping puppy. I put it on loop. I am pretty sure that I created the single most annoying video known to man this day.
